At Cardinal Prosthetics & Orthotics, our “cardinal rule” is to provide exceptional, personalized prosthetic and orthotic care to help our patients of all ages and abilities reach their mobility goals. We offer custom designed, cost-effective prosthetics and orthotics using advanced technologies and materials to enhance each patient’s comfort and help them to achieve the highest level of function and independence. Cardinal practitioners get to know each patient as an individual and develop a customized device to meet personal needs and lifestyle requirements. We work with all of the patient’s rehabilitation team to provide the highest level of clinical care and most optimal outcome possible.
Cardinal Prosthetics and Orthotics is owned and operated by Richard K. Churchill, CPO. As a trans-tibial (BK) amputee since 1983, Richard is uniquely qualified with personal experience and understanding of the many concerns facing new and long term amputees. This gives Richard the unique ability to analyze and fit orthotic and prosthetic devices to exacting specifications. Working in conjunction with your physician or caregiver, he fits and fabricates prosthetic and orthotic devices to maximize each individual’s independence and the functional lifetime of the prosthesis or orthosis he develops.
Richard is an American Board for Certification (ABC) Certified Prosthetist and Orthotist. He received his Bachelor in Science degree in Prosthetics and Orthotics from the College of Health at Florida International University. Richard has provided numerous lectures, presentations and in-service to universities, hospitals and rehabilitation facilities addressing optimal fitting, prescription criteria, clinical pathways and pathological indications, and more for prosthesis and orthoses.
Cardinal Prosthetics & Orthotics evolved out of Richard’s twenty years of experience providing professional and personal care to a multitude of patients. His emphasis on putting the patient first and matching them to the right technology allows them a rapid return to a normal lifestyle. This is Cardinal’s principal guiding philosophy.
As a transtibial (below-knee) amputee himself, Richard brings a unique quality of understanding and experience to patient care, which promotes patient understanding, communication, and optimal outcomes. Cardinal’s goal is to provide the highest level of quality care, exceptional service and education to our clients and referral sources in Virginia, West Virginia and Maryland. With this goal in mind, Richard continues his education with advanced training in state-of-the art components, materials and patient rehabilitative techniques to keep Cardinal Prosthetics & Orthotics at the forefront of the P&O industry.
Richard Churchill is a member of The American Academy of Orthotists and Prosthetists (since 1997) and is a member of the Spinal Society of AAOP and the Amputee Coalition.
